Why, why do they insist on using the cowboy?

"V" for Vendetta were two young gals from Providence, RI. Drums & electric, acoustic guitars, singin' pretty prog-folk-protest-love-math rock -- real nice starter. The crowd was polite. Folk Implosion were 3 guys (Drummer is Russ from Sebadoh, guitarist is Imaad from lowercase
{you may have seen them with the melvins}, singer/bass is Lou Barlow of
Sebadoh. - thanks aaron) first time live. To compliment his drums, Russ had an electronic pad and keyboard/synth (Dale didn't play with them). Imaad is about as thin as a toothpick, dressed in a dress shirt, slacks and vest and did a real nice job playing his open string style. Lou had a cold, was struggling with his voice (beer therapy--not so nice) and cut the set short a few songs. He kept his and our good humor, they did a pretty good job and were appreciated.
After Folk Implosion quit, Kevin came out on stage wearing his MuMu, beer in hand and yelled at them for taking too long to move off stage. Then he came back and proceeded to "pASS out"on stage. ASS to audience. He stayed there, face down, while the band was set up and got a few pokes from Roadbull and crew. Melvins wore their Seafood MuMus. Dale wore black undies, red rubber textured gloves. Loudest Melvins show ever. I think there was not one moment of silence during the set. Still couldn't hear the next day (earplugs for sure next time). Melvins were enthusiastic, full of energy and looking good. Dave was thrashing about and singing backup. Melvins vocal quartet! Crowd was primed and throbbing. My bruises can attest. I'm pretty sure it was sold out.
Set list in order:
Colossus of Destiny (Buzz had an effects pedal on his guitar and was coaxing out feedback. Kevin emerged from his prone on the floor position and took hold of his instrument. Dave had a sheet of industrial aluminum connected to a contact mic. Dale pounded.)
Eye Flys (Kevin = brutal bASS. Buzzo did it very well INDEED.)
Oven (!)
Anaconda (!!)
Ballad of Dwight Fry
Halo of Flies
At the Stake (be ready)
Let It All Be
amazon/AMAZON
Cherub
The Bit
Night Goat
With Teeth
Youth of America (Dale dropped his sticks a couple times, and recovered very nicely!)
Hung Bunny/Roman Bird Dog (evolved from the version on Lysol, INDEED!)
Said "hey", to Steve! (hey Steve!) and Paul (tanks for the brew, bud) from the Melvins L-list. O from fluf was at the show along with a few other local bandsters. Dan Raymond arrived for the end of the show. (Always nice to see and talk with you Dan! Be nice Texans, he's a good guy.) Dave told me it's his last Melvins tour (he knows some of you want the beloved threesome back). He may do a few shows with the Melvins in the future. He said they did the Paris art show with the Film doing Hung Bunny/Roman Bird Dog. It may happen again at UCLA. His wish is to do several contact mic/strings and hand them out to the audience. Favorite Buzzo quotes of the night: "Once they're gone, they'll be his-toe-ree." ~ Melvins Sleepytime Toy / "Tell him to sneak in!" ~ to B.
